Park and pay by phone

Park and pay by phone

Pay for car parking from the comfort of your vehicle using your mobile phone.

You can also extend your parking session by phone and get text reminders before your parking expires.

No need to display a ticket in your car. The civil enforcement officer will know that you have paid since your registration appears on their handheld device.

To register to pay by phone

Call 0870 428 3854 and follow the instructions. You can pay for the first parking session when you call.  Alternatively you can pay by text message.  Simply text 'help' to 0795 008 0201 and follow the instructions.  Please note that the text message service is not yet available for York Resident Minster Badge holders to obtain their discounted parking.

You will need a valid credit/debit card and your vehicle registration number with your mobile phone number.

You can also register online on the Verrus website.

How much does this cost to use?

A service charge of 20p will be added to your normal parking fee for parking of more than £2. For less than £2 the fee is 10p.

Text reminders cost 10p each. A receipt for your parking can be sent to you by either text or email. There is a charge of 10p for the text message receipt, but the email receipt is free of charge.

Your parking costs will appear on your monthly credit/debit card statement.

You can view and print off all of your parking transactions at your on line account on the Verrus website.

How will civil enforcement officers know I have paid to park?

Civil enforcement officers use handheld devices that allow them to access the Verrus system and view the vehicle registration numbers of all motorists that have paid by phone at the car park location.

When you phone to pay it is very important that you listen to the whole of the voice message and press 1 to confirm when prompted. If you hang up before this part of the message and do not press 1, your transaction will not be processed. This means that your car registration number will not appear as having paid on the civil enforcement officer's handheld device.

Can I buy more than one day's parking?

You can buy as many days as you like at any standard stay car park. You can also buy a week's parking for £40 (plus a service charge of 75p) and if you have a short or low emission vehicle the price is reduced to £20 (plus 50p service charge). You will need to present your vehicle registration document to the Parking Office at 9 St Leonard's Place to obtain a permit to show the civil enforcement officers that your vehicle is classed as a low emission vehicle and that you are entitled to the 50% discount on your weekly parking. Please note that the weekly parking permits are only available to users of the mobile phone parking payment system.

Extending your parking session

You can extend your parking period remotely - just call 0870 428 3854 or 0795 008 0201 if you have paid by text message and follow the instructions.

You can also buy more than one day's parking.

Parking discounts

You will still be entitled to a discount off your parking fee if you have a parking discount badge for York residents (York Minster Badge Holder).

When you call 0870 428 3854 to pay for your parking you will be asked to indicate whether you have a York Resident Minster Badge. Please ensure that your Minster Badge is clearly displayed in your vehicle so that the civil enforcement officers are aware that you are entitled to the discount.

At the present time you cannot obtain a resident discount if you use the text message service.
