City of York Council's gritting teams have gritted the primary highway network four times so far today. They are now moving on to secondary routes and will be treating them throughout the afternoon. However, the council is warning motorists and cyclists that it will take some time for the grit to make an impact on the compacted snow and ice.

Guided cycle rides planned for this weekend are cancelled

Cycling City York has cancelled all guided cycle rides planned for this Saturday and Sunday (11 and 12 December) as the snowy and icy conditions show little sign of easing. This includes a guided mountain bike ride at Dalby Forest planned for Sunday, which will be postponed until Sunday 3 April, 2011.
