Refurbished West Bank toilets - now open

Posted on Tuesday 13 April 2010

City of York Council's newly refurbished toilets situated in West Bank Park have now reopened to the public.

Following a £20,000 refit, the park now has a new disabled toilet with baby-changing facilities accessible with radar key, improved lighting and a new Wallgate style washing systems within the toilet facilities with a combined soap, water and hand drying unit.

The work carried out at West Bank Park is part of the ongoing improvements in preparation for the Green Flag inspection in spring.

The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. The award is given annually and recognises quality green spaces across the country. Four of the council parks and open spaces have previously  won the coveted Green Flag Award, including Rowntree Park, West Bank Park, Glen Gardens and Rawcliffe Country Park.

The award is judged on a wide range of criteria including whether the site is clean, well maintained, welcoming and safe and secure, as well as looking at levels of community involvement and management.
