Election fever will officially hit York today (13 April) when Kersten England, City of York Council's chief executive and the Acting Returning Officer for the 2010 elections, will receive the official Election Writs from parliament.
The Writs will call for elections to be held for the two new seats that will represent York in parliament, York Central and York Outer seat.
The election will be held on Thursday May 6 and registered voters will be able to cast their votes at one of 120 polling stations across the city.
Anyone who would like to register for a postal vote, or who believes that they may not be on the electoral register should contact the council's electoral team as soon as possible on 01904 01904 551072 or by emailing electoral.services@york.gov.uk The last day to register and apply for a postal vote is Tuesday 20 April at 5pm.
