Yorkshire Day celebrations

Posted on Wednesday 29 July 2009

York will celebrate Yorkshire Day in style this weekend (1 August).

Banners and bunting will be strung across Parliament Street and there will be a traditional Yorkshire Market, Morris Dancers and some Yorkshire Brass Bands to provide entertainment.

At approximately 1.00pm the 'Declaration of Integrity' will be read near the fountain. These readings will be in Old English, Norse, Latin and Modern English and were introduced in 1975 following the county's boundary changes the year before. They will also be read, as per tradition, at the four main Bars of the Walls - Walmgate at 10.45am, Micklegate at 11.30am, Bootham at 12.15pm and Monkgate at 12.45pm.
