Art lovers will be able to pick up a bargain this weekend (31 January) at an auction of 50 pieces of art, which have been inspired by York's green spaces.
The work includes paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics and felt wall hangings have been produced by community volunteers as part of City of York Council's 'Seeing Green' initiative.
Co-ordinated by Arts Action York, the council's community arts team, the aim of the project was to enable people to come together, learn new skills and make a positive contribution to their community, reducing the isolation that many people experience over the festive season.
Seeing Green took its inspiration from York's green spaces. The city has over 40 green spaces, including nature reserves, parks, wildlife areas and other hidden green gems.
The artwork will be auctioned at the Priory Centre on Saturday, with the proceeds going to the Friends of St Nicholas Fields, to increase awareness of environmental issues. The doors will open at 12noon for the chance to look around the artwork and the auction starts at 3.30pm. A professional auctioneer will be on hand to ensure that the bidding goes smoothly. There are no reserves on any of the items so this is a chance to own original art at a great price and support the community too .
