City of York Council will start improvements to the section of Fulford Road between Cemetery Road and Hospital Fields Road on 2 March.
These improvements include cycle lanes in both directions; a short section of off-road cycle route between the police headquarters and the Hospital Fields Road junction; an improved crossing facility near the police headquarters; and short stay parking near the local shops.
The works will be carried out by the council's Neighbourhood Services section and are expected to last for approximately five weeks.
As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience, but everything reasonably possible will be done to keep this to a minimum.
The works form part of a series of proposed improvements along this main transport corridor aimed at providing improved facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Members of the council's Advisory Panel for City Strategy will consider a report later next month (16 March) on proposed improvements on the next section between Hospital Fields Road and Heslington Lane together with a section of bus lane on Selby Road heading into York from the A64.
