Over 90 per cent of home care customers in the city are satisfied with the home care provided through City of York Council by its in-house team and private providers, according to a recent survey.
The council surveyed all of its 982 home care customers aged 65 and over earlier this year as part of a nationwide survey of home care.
A total of 91 per cent of those who responded said that they were satisfied with the care they receive, with only four per cent stating that they were dissatisfied.
95 per cent of respondents said that they were always or usually happy with the way their care workers treated them and 83 per cent said that their care workers always or usually come at a time that suits them.
A total of 90 per cent also said that their home carers always or nearly always did the things that they wanted done. Only one per cent of respondents said that they never did.
Bill Hodson, director of Housing and Adult Social Services at City of York Council, said: "These figures show the high level of trust that customers place in home care services both in the private and the public sector.
"However, we know there is no room for complacency and I would encourage customers and their families to let the provider or the council know if their care ever falls below these generally high standards. We do our own regular checks but the sooner we are alerted to a problem the sooner we can put it right."
The initiative is part of City of York Council's aim to ensure that York is a Healthy City, where residents enjoy long health and independent lives.
