String Fun Days

Posted on Monday 30 June 2008

Over 100 young violin, viola and cello players from York Primary Schools recently attended the eleventh 'String Fun Days' on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 June.

The popular annual event is organised by City of York Council's Arts Education team and this year was held at Yearsley Grove Primary School.

The highlight of both days was the informal concerts for family and friends. The emphasis was on playing music together and having a good time, especially for those children who don't have the opportunity in their own primary schools to play as part of a group.

Wes Lawrance, City of York's Arts Education manager, said: "The Strings Event is always very popular and was a big hit with youngsters this year. For many young people this event demonstrates the success of a years progress on their instrument and provides them with the opportunity to enjoy playing in a fun, relaxed atmosphere."
