'Recycler' the rapping robot has returned to York this week to visit children at seven local primary schools to spread the word about recycling.

The programme of visits is part of the national Recycle Now campaign and is being organised by WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) and Waste Watch in partnership with City of York Council.

Recycler will bring his interactive educational show to a number of primary schools across the city to teach pupils and staff about the three Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle. He will show children what they can do to make a difference and give examples of how they can put the three Rs into practice at home and school.

Rachel Buxton, waste strategy assistant for the council, said: "Every household in York throws away 1.22 tonnes of waste each year and around half of this can be recycled. Recycler uses rap to tell the children about the importance of recycling and explain what they can do to help.

"Recycler came to York last year and was very popular at all the schools that he visited. This is a really fun and entertaining way to get the reduce, reuse and recycle message across to schoolchildren."
