Open days at York Performing Arts Centre

Posted on Tuesday 25 September 2007

City of York Council's Performing Arts Centre is holding two open days to give aspiring musicians, dancers and actors the chance to see the amazing range of activities and opportunities available.

The centre offers music, dance and drama sessions for young people aged three years of age and above, and anyone is welcome to go along and see the fantastic work being done.

On Saturday mornings the Performing Arts Centre is based at Canon Lee School in Rawcliffe and an open day will take place there on Saturday 13 October from 10am until 12 noon. There will be a choice of performing arts groups to see, including guitar ensembles, bands, early years groups, choirs, orchestras, break dancers and actors. Visitors will be able to tour the centre and take part in taster sessions.

On Wednesday evenings the Performing Arts Centre is based at Millthorpe School and an open day will be held there on Wednesday 10 October from 5pm to 6.30pm. At this event an exciting mix of rock bands, youth theatre, world drumming, jazz and brass bands will be on display.

The Performing Arts Centre is run by the council's arts and culture team and, in addition to the weekly rehearsals and workshops, there are opportunities to take part in regular concerts, festivals and events.  Senior groups have the chance to tour abroad and recently returned from a highly successful trip to the French Alps.

Donna Fox, the arts and culture team's young person officer, said: "There is something for everyone interested in music, dance and drama at the Performing Arts Centre. The open days are opportunities for us to show off the fantastic wealth of talent in the city and encourage budding musicians, actors and dancers to come along to improve their skills and make new friends. Everyone is welcome!"
