Traffic management arrangements for Motorhome Show

Posted on Tuesday 18 September 2007

City of York Council is advising road users and residents of traffic management arrangements that will be put in place for the Motorhome Show taking place at the Knavesmire later this week (20 to 24 September).

On Wednesday 19 September, before vehicles start arriving at the site, 'no waiting' cones will be positioned along both sides of Knavesmire Road and Knavesmire Avenue; and along one side of Knavesmire Crescent and Church Lane in Bishopthorpe.

On Thursday 20 and Friday 21 September, when vehicles are expected to arrive at the venue, signs will direct traffic approaching the city via the A1237 onto the A64 and to enter York at the Bondhill Ash junction. Signs will direct visitors who have prepaid via Tadcaster Road. However, this excludes any American-type RV-style vehicles, which will have to access the Knavesmire along with other show traffic via Sim Balk Lane, Church Lane, Bishopthorpe Road and Campleshon Road. Entry into the course will be controlled by  staff from Warners, which is organising the event.

The traffic lights at the London Bridge and Sim Balk Lane junctions will be monitored by CCTV. Between the hours of 9am and 6pm, traffic management measures aimed at minimising delays or queues back onto the A64 will be put in place to keep traffic moving through these junctions. Traffic lights at the junction of Tadcaster Road and St Helens Road will be under manual control between 10am and 6pm to minimise delays and queues. Bus services will be given priority. The temporary traffic lights at the Knavesmire gates will be in operation and staffed from 10am until 6pm to minimise delays and keep traffic moving.

On Monday, 24 September, traffic leaving the show will be advised not to leave during the morning rush hour. Traffic lights at theTadcaster Road and St Helens road junction will be under manual control between 10am and 1pm. Traffic lights at the Tadcaster Road and Sim Balk Lane junction will be monitored by CCTV, and traffic management measures will again be put in place between 9am and 1pm to keep traffic moving.
