Eviction of Mark Caple

Posted on Tuesday 18 September 2007

A nuisance tenant who harassed his neighbours by playing loud music and slamming doors, as well as causing extensive damage to his council home, has been evicted by City of York Council.

Mark Caple (24), who took over the tenancy of the property on Fossway in 2005, showed little regard for his neighbours, playing loud music at all hours of the day and night, and covering the walls in graffiti.

When the council was granted possession of the flat during an initial court hearing, Mr Caple indicated that he would vacate the premises. However, he did not keep his word and the council was forced to implement eviction proceedings last week.

Much of the contents of the property will have to be disposed of and it will need to be re-decorated before it can be re-let. The cost of this work will be charged to Mr Caple once his new address has been established.

A City of York Council spokesperson said: "This is the outcome of several months of joint working by the council's tenancy enforcement, legal and environmental protection teams. Mr Caple's former neighbours have been very supportive of the action taken by the council and are pleased with this outcome."
