Executive to consider report on job opportunities in York

Posted on Friday 21 September 2007

Next Tuesday (25 September), City of York Council's Executive will be asked to consider a report on current efforts to create job opportunities and how best to allocate resources in the future.

The report outlines the findings of a review that council members have requested. It  makes specific reference to some of the recommendations contained in the recent report by the Future York Group, which is independent of the council and was set up to look at how best the city could respond to job losses. The council is currently consulting on the Future York Group report and will consider its formal response to this later in the year.

Executive members will be asked to consider three areas:

- how the council can allocate sufficient resources to ensure that job creating planning opportunities are dealt with quickly
- how a new partnership approach could help the growth of local, small businesses
- the adequacy and success of local skill training facilities for York workers
