Monitor swimming pool progress on-line

Posted on Friday 14 September 2007

Residents can monitor progress on City of York Council's £900,000 reburbishment programme at Yearsley Swimming Pool - at the click of a mouse!

The swimming pool has been closed since 9 July and is expected to re-open on Monday 29 October, when the work will have been completed. However, residents can find out what's going on inside the building for themselves by visiting the council's website at www.york.gov.uk and selecting the 'Yearsley Swimming Pool' link. There they will find a detailed explanation of the work that's being carried out, as well as a series of updates and photographs posted at regular intervals since the scheme began.

As well as extending the lifespan of the pool, the refurbishment work will make the building more energy efficient and improve its visual appearance. It involves replacing the old roof and wall cladding; installing drainage channels and new tiles around the edge of the pool; updating the toilet and shower areas; building a dedicated footpath, cycle path and three disabled car parking spaces at the front of the building; grouting the pool tank and pool surround; widening the fire doors in line with health and safety regulations; replacing the ventilation system; replacing the water filters and pumps in the plant room; and insulating the walls.
