Chance to sample school meals

Posted on Tuesday 11 September 2007

City of York Council is inviting parents to try a school meal as part of the York Festival of Food and Drink.

Courtesy of North Yorkshire County Caterers, which provides the school meals service in York, people are being given the chance to sample the following menus in the Guildhall, York later this month:

Saturday 22 September - Apple jack pork or bean and vegetable flan with peas;  carrots; new potatoes and wholemeal bread followed by muesli crispy.

Sunday 23 September - Chicken and borlotti beans or macaroni cheese with peas; carrots; brown rice and garlic bread followed by fruits of the forest cobbler.

The Guildhall will be open between 11.30am and 2.30pm on both days and a fee of £3 will be charged for each meal served, with the money raised going to school charities.

North Yorkshire County Caterers will also be running cookery and tasting sessions in St Helens Square on 29 and 30 September between 11am and 2pm, when representatives of the company will be cooking typical school meals dishes for the public to sample.
