Jungle party celebrations for biggest ever national Bookstart Day

Posted on Tuesday 25 September 2007

‘Jungle fever ' is spreading across York's libraries as they get ready to celebrate National Bookstart Day (5 October) with jungle-themed parties.

Bookstart aims to help every child in the UK develop a lifelong love of books and this year's programme will offer millions of children and parents the chance to discover the joy of reading together. Posters, bookmarks and stickers have been designed especially for the day by The Gruffalo illustrator, Axel Scheffler.

Parties will be held during the regular storytimes in all City of York Council's libraries from Monday 1-Friday 5 October and two special jungle extravaganzas will be held at Central Library on Tuesday 2 October from 10.30am-11.30am and at Haxby library on Friday 5 October from 2.30am-4.00am.

Parents, grandparents and carers are all welcome and must accompany the children through out the event.
