The countdown's on! There's now less than a week to York's 50+ Games, which will be held on Sunday 30 September.
The games will be a day of taster sessions and fun, competitive events and the only qualification to take part is that all participants must be over 50 years old.
The games have been organised by City of York Council and are part of the York 50+ Festival. The aim is to encourage older people to take part in sports activities.
There are five events in various venues throughout the city:
Petanque at the Railway Institute, Queen Street
Tennis and Table Tennis at Dunnington Sports and Social Club
Bowls at New Earswick Bowls Club
Badminton at Oaklands Sports Centre
Bouldering Competition at Oaklands Sports Centre
All players are invited to attend an awards ceremony at Oaklands Sports Centre to which all players are invited. All events winners will receive trophies and prizes. This will be a great way to end the day with a chance to discuss the games over a drink while relaxing in the welcoming facilities at Oaklands Sports Centre. A buffet will be provided.
Ellie Hutchinson, the council's Physical Activity coordinator said: "The games are open to all abilities, so whether you are a seasoned player or just interested in trying something new, come along and take part in what promises to be an action packed fun day."
