City of York Council's Big Wild Read challenge will draw to a close this weekend with a special event to reward hundreds of children who have taken part during the summer holidays.

The winners of a free prize draw are being invited to a themed buffet before attending best-selling author Nick Arnold's 'Horrible Science' show at York Theatre Royal this Sunday (September 9).

More than 2,000 four to twelve year olds have taken part in the Big Wild Read, which ran in all city of York Council libraries throughout the summer holidays. The challenge was to read six books during the summer holidays and there were free gifts, the chance to win prizes and fun activities to help participants along the way.

During Sunday's event Nick Arnold will present the first prize winner of the Big Wild Read with their prize to claim a brand new bicycle.
