City of York Council is asking motorcyclists to help report 'problems on York's roads as part of a new initiative to promote safer motorcycling across the region.
'Report a road' is a national scheme involving local authorities and the Highways Agency with the aim of promoting safer motorcycling. The partners are asking riders to report specific maintenance issues on roads, if they feel that the surface may have contributed to an accident or incident that they were involved in.
All the motorcyclist has to do to register their concern is log on to www.handleitorloseit.com, click on "Report a road" from the menu and then follow the on-screen guide. All reports will be automatically sent to the local council's Road Safety Team.
Tom Foxton, from City of York Council's Road Safety team, said: "Two-wheel vehicles can be affected by road conditions in different ways to four wheel vehicles and it is important that we are made aware of potential and actual problems as soon as possible.
"By logging on and filing a report, motorcyclists can help to bring about a speedier response and solution to a problem, hopefully before an accident occurs.
"This new initiative is a key element of our on-going drive to make the roads safer for all users and to reduce the number and severity of accidents on York's roads."
