Traditional Dance Festival comes to York

Posted on Wednesday 5 September 2007

Hot on the heels of the Eurovision Dance Contest, York will host its own dance spectacular this weekend (8- 9 September).

Morris dancers from across the country will gather in York for the annual Traditional Dance Festival.

The city centre streets and civic open spaces will come alive with colour, music and dance between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, with all types of traditional Morris dancing on show, including Garland, Sword, Clog and Rapper.

A mass morris dance will be held at 3.30pm on Saturday in St Sampson's Square, with all the teams taking part. This will be followed by a presentation of commemorative medals by the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Irene Waudby.
