Let 'Inspire' inspire you!

Fancy watching the world premiere of a play, going to a classical concert,
listening to storytelling, experiencing a multi-media mix of voice, sound and
movement and still having time to watch a contemporary dance performance - all
in one night ?
City of York Council's Arts Action and Read Write York teams have combined to
organise a performance that will take place at five different venues in York on
the same evening using five different art forms, thanks to help from CORE
(York's City Centre Churches Care and Development Trust).
Admission is free and audiences are being encouraged to wander between the
venues to catch all the performances, each of which lasts around 15 minutes.
Entitled 'Inspire', the event will take place on the evening of Friday 2nd
November 2007 between 6pm and 9pm.
The Lady Chapel at York Minster will be the venue for a 'spoken word'
performance entitled 'From shadows to syllables'. It features local performers
Pauline Kirk (poet), Antony Dunn (poet), Helen Sant (storyteller) and Adrian
Spendlow (storyteller).
Meanwhile, in Bedern Hall, Bartle Garth (which is located off Goodramgate down
the alleyway next to Caesar's restaurant), the acclaimed string quartet
Divertimento will perform 'Lux Aeterna', a programme that will include a new
work involving improvisation and electronic soundtrack.
The world premiere of Silver Tongue Theatre's new play 'Sanctuary' will take
place at Holy Trinity Church on Goodramgate.
St. Helens Church in St Helen’s Square is the venue for 'Spirit',
which brings together the natural elements of voice, sound and movement with
multi-media and digital art.
At St. Martin Le Grand Church on Coney Street there will be a chance to see
'Halo', a contemporary dance performance by professional dancers and students
from York St. John University.
Read Write York co-ordinator, Miles Salter, said : "The spoken word performance
represents a good balance of artistic activity, with stories and poems
performed by four different artists in a splendid setting."
Arts Action Officer Dave Fleming explained: "Every 15 minutes the performances
will be repeated, so over a period of three hours so you can see everything
that Inspire has to offer."
