Posted on Friday 12 October 2007

York's city centre will be alive with lights this Christmas thanks to funding from City of York Council, York's City Centre Partnership and traders.

Councillors have agreed to provide £20,000 to fund cross-street Christmas lights in the city centre. York City Centre Partnership has agreed to contribute £10,000, with city centre traders putting in £5,000. Funding from the council has been made available thanks to a £500,000 business rates rebate.

Bill Woolley, director of City Strategy for the council, said: "Cross street lights in York are an important in part of our Christmas offer. Now having the funding in place to ensure they will be provided is great news.”
