Photo opportunity: Giant can car arrives in York

Posted on Wednesday 24 October 2007

Measuring two metres high and three metres long, the super-sized can will form the centrepiece of an interactive roadshow to encourage local people to think twice about the rubbish they throw away. The giant can will be in Parliament Street on Wednesday 24 October from 10.30am4pm as part of the first recycle roadshow.

This interactive display is designed to look like a tin of  tomato soup and when stationary, the rear doors open revealing three display panels.  These illustrate the various ways in which recycling helps reduce the need for landfill sites and the way in which rubbish can be separated into different categories for recycling.

A second roadshow will be held at ASDA at Monks Cross on Monday 29 October from 10.30am4pm [please note that the can will not be at this event].

City of York Council's Waste Strategy team will be available to provide residents with help and information on how to reduce, reuse and recycle more. Residents can pick up a replacement recycling container and enter a recycling themed competition for the chance to win some great prizes. Helpful, practical, information on home composting will also be available from York Rotters.
