City of York Council's network management team will continue to review the traffic arrangements outside York City Football Ground, if members agree to proposals at a meeting of the City Strategy Advisory Panel later this month (29 October).
Historically the police have dealt with crowd safety issues outside the ground, but they have asked the council to consider the possibility of introducing traffic management measures for home games.
The council's network management team has made a number of visits to the
site on match days to assess the situation with a view to:
- removing potential conflicts between pedestrians and traffic
- maintaining an area of carriageway available for use by the emergency
services in case of a major incident at the ground
At present, the team believes that there doesn’t appear to be a pressing highway safety reason to take any action, but they are recommending making further visits to the ground over the next few months to monitor the situation.
Members will be asked to approve a proposal to further investigate the issues with the police, Safety Advisory Group and York City Football Club.
