From tomorrow (Tuesday 13 November), residents of the Fordlands Elderly Persons' Home in Fulford will be able to benefit from a new internet lounge that will provide them with an alternative means of keeping in touch with family and friends.
Residents of the City of York Council-run home will be able to enjoy tea and coffee in the internet lounge, as well as making use of the computers. Keith Martin, head of adult services for the council, will officially open the new facilities.
Maureen Carr, the manager of Fordlands Elderly Persons' Home, said: "The is a really worthwhile project because we often have residents whose families live a long way away or even abroad, which can make visiting very difficult.
"This project will also encourage residents to meet up with one another in the lounge and give them something to talk about. The lounge also has shop facilities, where they can choose for themselves what they want to buy."
