York Literature Festival 2008: Self-publishing advice from local authors

Posted on Monday 19 November 2007

Authors with links to the Yorkshire area will discuss the pros and cons of self-publishing as part of the programme for the 2008 York Literature Festival.

Three authors, who have all self-published their work, will gather at Borders bookshop on Saturday 15 March to offer writers keen to see their work in print a useful insight into the pros and cons of self-publishing.

The panel will include G.P. Taylor, the North Yorkshire vicar who sold his motorbike to help fund the publication of his book 'Shadowmancer'. The book went on to be a bestseller, was translated into 48 different languages and secured a  seven-figure film deal for the author.

Also appearing is Tricia Walker, whose book 'Benedict's Brother' received support from an Arts Council grant. Until recently Tricia lived in York and will be returning to the city for the Literature Festival.

They will be joined by York author Christian Vassie, who recently self-published his second book 'Making Plans For Michael' and is selling it via the internet.

Miles Salter, Read Write York co-ordinator, said: "The event promises to be an entertaining and very informative glimpse at the world of self-publishing. We look forward to welcoming members of the public along as part of the 2008 York Literature Festival."
