Work carried out with and by young offenders from York and North Yorkshire will be showcased at an event taking place this week.
Organised through the York and North Yorkshire ISSP (Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme), the event will take place at The Priory Centre on Priory Street, York next Wednesday 14 November.
It will be attended by senior managers from a range of statutory and voluntary agencies, councillors, police, magistrates, ISSP staff and young people. The aim is to highlight the work that goes on to address issues such as anger management, substance misuse and victim awareness, and on community activities and driving theory exercises
There will be presentations by some of the agencies that the ISSP works with, including a keynote speech by Mark Summers from the Youth Justice Board. There will also be an opportunity to for delegates to watch DVDs that young people were involved in making with during the summer. For example, 'New Directions' recounts how ISSP has had a positive impact on young people and features interviews with a magistrate who sits at youth court, a police officer and a legal adviser.
The event will be attended by senior managers from a range of statutory and voluntary agencies, councillors, police, magistrates, ISSP staff and young people.
Young people accessing the ISSP tend to be prolific offenders or have committed a serious offence for which an adult would receive a lengthy prison sentence. All of the young people who attend ISSP are subject to court orders.
