City of York Council's benefits advisers are encouraging local residents that they may be able to 'get something extra' in the form of unclaimed benefits.
Focusing on five different types of benefits - housing, council tax, pension credits, disability living allowance and attendance allowance - the team is keen to reach those who are entitled to claim but are not currently doing so.
Mike Coda, benefits advice and appeals manager, explained: "It doesn't matter if you have been turned down before; you think your income is too high; or your care needs might not be great enough. It is still worth giving us a call so that we can check if you entitled to get a little something extra."
To find out if you might be eligible, call the benefits advice team on 01904 551111 if you are aged 60 or over, or 552233 if you are aged under 60.
