At a meeting on 10 December City of York Council's Executive Member and Advisory Panel (EMAP) for Adult Social Services will consider a petition from members of the public opposed to the planned closure of the Yearsley Bridge Day Centre.
The centre is due to close next year as part of the ongoing modernisation of the council's day care services. The aim is to provide people with day care support in the community that is better suited to their individual needs, in keeping with the requirements of the government's 'Valuing People' White Paper.
The EMAP will receive a report outlining the progress already made in consulting with day care users and their families so that alternative day care provision can be put in place before the centre closes. It also reveals that a number of people accessing day care services have already opted to switch over to the alternative forms of support available to them rather than attend the Yearsley Bridge Centre.
