Post Office consultation

Posted on Wednesday 28 November 2007

City of York Council is reminding residents that they can air their views on the post office closure debate in a number of different ways.

Post Office Ltd is planning to close up to 2,500 Post Office branches (out of a current total of 14,300), with the introduction of about 500 service points, known as 'outreaches' to mitigate the impact of the proposed closures.

In York, the Post Offices that have been marked for closure are:

Clifton
Haxby Road
Micklegate
Fulford

The proposals are subject to local public consultation to ensure that the views of local people are taken into account before any final decisions are made.

The consultation period has now started and will close on 17 January 2008.

Roger Ranson, head of Economic Development at the council, said: " We would like to give as much information as possible to help members of the public make their views on the proposed Post Office closure programme known to Post Office Ltd. Further information on how to do so is available on the council's website at www.york.gov.uk"

Anyone wanting to air their views should write to: Adrian Wales, Network Development Manager, c/o National Consultation Team, FREEPOST CONSULTATION TEAM; email: consultation@postoffice.co.uk or call the customer helpline 08457 223344
