Lord Mayor of York joins in Remembrance Day commemorations

Posted on Monday 5 November 2007

The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Irene Waudby, will be joining the city's Remembrance Day commemorations this weekend.

York's remembrance parade will start at 10.30am on Sunday (11 November), with parades from The Eye of York, Stonegate and the Mansion House, all joining together in the Memorial Gardens in Leeman Road.

The service will begin at 11am with the sounding of a minute gun to denote a two minute silence.  The religious service will follow, with the laying of wreaths and a review of the troops and veterans on parade.

Following the service in the gardens, the Lord Mayor, Lord Lieutenant and heads of services (Army, RAF, Navy and Cadets) will take the salute from the parade on the steps of the Mansion House.

The Lord Mayor will also be selling poppies outside the Mansion House from 10.30am until 11.30am on Saturday (10 November).
