Two City of York Council's vehicles are getting an eye-catching make over to mark Recycle Now Week, which runs from June 4 to 8.
One of the council's fleet of refuse collection vehicles and the van used by its waste strategy team will be covered in a bright and cheery 'recycle for York' wrap paid for through the government's Waste Resource Action Programme (WRAP), which aims to promote recycling.
The vehicles' striking new look will make them the pride of the council's fleet and help to reinforce the recycle message as they drive around the city's streets. Both vehicles will be in use during Recycle Now week, with the refuse collection vehicle out collecting garden waste and refuse as part of the council's cycle of alternate weekly collections. Meanwhile, the waste strategy team's van will be visiting a series of roadshows taking place at venues across the city to mark Recycle Now Week.
The council's waste service project officer, Elizabeth Wray, said: "The wraps will last for around one year, and are really bright and bold. They should help to raise awareness of the city's commitment to recycling."
The council’s head of waste services, Geoff Derham, said: “We have used smaller, temporary messages on our vehicles in the past but this is something that no-one will be able to miss. We want to maintain the local interest in recycling and, as our vehicles operate throughout the city, everyone will get the chance to see them."
