Blooming York

Posted on Tuesday 29 May 2007

Perennials, peonies and pansies will be among the host of plants available at York's annual gardening market this weekend (Friday 1 June - Sunday 3 June).

The popular event will be held in Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square from 9.00am to 5.00pm over three days.

Part of the York in Bloom initiative, the market is organised by City of York Council and Askham Bryan Agricultural College, and is sponsored by York City Centre Partnership.

Highlights include a 'mini market' in Parliament Street, with stalls offering plants, flowers, shrubs, garden ornaments and garden furniture. And visitors will be able to take a break with 'tea on the lawn' in the landscaped garden, which will take pride of place in St Sampson's Square. The garden will evolve throughout the weekend as it is worked on by students from Askham Bryan and members of the council's Street Scene team.
