Statement re Planning Inquiry into expansion of the University of York Campus

Posted on Friday 25 May 2007

Bill Woolley, director of City Strategy at City of York Council, said: "It's great news for the city that the Secretary of State has approved the University of York's plans to expand its campus and thereby ensure its continued future success.

"The university is one of the top teaching establishments in the country and its expansion will bring further major economic, social and cultural benefits to the city. The links between the university and Science City York are instrumental in ensuring that York continues to create much needed jobs for future generations. The university's proposals will be a tremendous asset for the future economy of York as well as contributing to regional and national growth.

"However, gaining government approval for the development is only the beginning of the process. We will continue to work closely with the university and the local community to help shape and influence the development."
