Splish Splash at the Splashathon

Posted on Friday 25 May 2007

Edmund Wilson and Yearsley swimming pools are joining in the celebrations for the Tommy's Splashathon's tenth birthday.

The Tommy's Splashathon, sponsored by 'Huggies® Little Swimmers®' and supported by Verbaudet, encourages babies, toddlers and young children to have fun and at the same time raise money by simply splashing a width or length of the pool.

Parents or carers are invited to come along with their child to Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool on Tuesday 12 June at 11.45am or Thursday 14 June at 11.15am, or Yearsley Swimming Pool on Tuesday 12 June between 1.30pm and 4.00pm.  Both adult and child will be able to swim for free if they are taking part in the event.

Tommy's, the baby charity, is hoping the 2007 event will be its most successful ever, beating last year's record breaking fundraising total, which raised a magnificent £175,000.

This year each little splasher taking part will receive a free pair of 'Huggies® Little Swimmers®' which are specially designed to protect in water.  Parents will also receive a discount on leading children's wear brand Vertbaudet.

Jane Brewin, chief executive of Tommy's said: "This event, run by over 600 pools and swim schools, is great fun for the youngsters and parents alike.  I'd very much like to thank them for all their generous support - the funds raised will will go towards Tommy's many research projects and will also fund our information line, run by midwives, answering questions on all aspects of pregnancy."

Matthew Hawes, 'Huggies® Little Swimmers®' brand manager, commented: "We are delighted to be supporting Tommy's Splashathon for the third successive year.  Splashathon is a fantastic, fun filled event, which encourages bonding between parent and child, as well as raising money for a truly worthwhile cause.  Right now in the UK one in four women will lose a baby through pregnancy or birth so we are glad that our contribution will really make a difference."
