Have your say about childcare and win £100!

Posted on Monday 21 May 2007

City of York Council wants to hear what parents and carers think about childcare in York - and they could win £100 for their efforts.

The authority's Early Years and Extended Schools' Service will be asking for people's views from now until the end of July in a bid to identify gaps in provision. The statutory process, known as a 'childcare sufficiency assessment', is a requirement of the Childcare Act. The aim of the assessment is to ensure that the necessary childcare is available to enable parents or carers to take up or remain in work, education or training.

The council wants to know if childcare is being provided:
·In the right places
·At the right times
·At an affordable price
·Is high quality

And wants to hear from any parents of carers of children or young people under 16 or anyone who is about to become a parent or carer.

Niall McVicar, the council's Children's Information Manager said "This is the perfect opportunity for parents and carers to have their say about childcare in York. By sharing their views, parents and carers will also have the opportunity to win £100 of high street vouchers.

"People can respond in lots of different ways, by filling in a questionnaire; responding online through www.york.gov.uk/childcare or by calling 01904 554628. We really need to hear people's experiences so we can shape the future of childcare provision in York."

Anyone wanting to receive a questionnaire can text 'SA',  followed by their name and address to 07624 802244.
