Dancers from York have successfully auditioned for a major production at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds.
The show, Bollywood Jane, is an exuberant explosion of dance and music and the amateur dancers will form part of the 40 strong chorus.
The dancers all attend Bollywood dance classes organised by City of York Council's arts and culture team in association with York St John University.
Their tutor, Zoobin Surty, is choreographing the Bollywood Jane production in Leeds.
He said: "I am very proud that dancers from my classes in York have been chosen to take part in the West Yorkshire Playhouse production. Bollywood dancing has really caught on in York and people seem to like its expression, poise and rhythm."
York's Bollywood dance classes are held at the Dance Studio at York St John University every Friday and Saturday. The adult class is on Friday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.45pm. Children's classes are held on Saturdays with a session for eight to 11 year olds from 10.00am to 11.00am and one for 11 to 16 at 11.00am to 12noon.
The courses last for 11 weeks and cost £30 for children and £35 for adults. Concessions are available for those receiving benefits.
The summer term classes start on 20 April for adults and 21 April for young people. Beginners are welcome.
