City of York Council and the Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Scheme are urging households and businesses to recycle their old yellow pages as soon as the new copy is delivered within the next few weeks.
Old Yellow Pages directories can be recycled via the Household Waste Recycling Centres at Hazel Court, Beckfield Lane and Towthorpe until Monday 16 April.
Erin Gardner, from City of York Council's waste team, said: "Many people are already in the habit of regularly recycling old newspapers, bottles cans and cardboard. Over the next few weeks, we are asking residents to recycle one extra item - their old 2006/07 Yellow Pages directory. If everyone in York recycles their old directory when the new one is delivered it will make a real contribution to the environment."
Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages directories, said: "As a business committed to the environment, we encourage everyone to recycle as much as they can, as regularly as possible; however, when it comes to recycling old Yellow Pages directories, the best time to do it is when the new edition has just been delivered."
