Young people across York will learn about the potentially devastating consequences of dangerous driving this month.
'It's my life', a hard hitting play about a young driver who crashes his car and kills three of his passengers, will be touring York schools throughout March. At the end of the play the students will see footage of a local girl who was involved in a serious road crash.
Organised by City of York Council's Road Safety team, the play will visit Burnholme Community College, Fulford School, Huntington School, Oaklands School, Lowfield School and Canon Lee School and is aimed at 15 and 16 year olds.
Tom Foxton, from the council's Road Safety team aid; "Young people under the age of 21 make up a large proportion of York's road accident casualty data. Approximately 1,000 pupils across the city will see the play and if it makes an impression on just one student then it will have been worth it."
The play is directed by John Cooper and involves young actors from York.
The council's Road Safety team has produced a guide to help parents teach their children how to drive safely. Entitle ' Helping to make your teenager a safe driver and passenger' the leaflet is available free of charge by calling 01904 551331 or emailing road.safeyt@york.gov.uk
