City Of York Council

York Oscars

Posted on Friday 29 June 2007

For the second year running, City of York Council is running a unique competition for children and young people who could be the next Tarentino or Scorsese.

The Yoscars (York Oscars) are open to budding young film-makers aged between three and 16 years of age from schools across the city. Each of the finalists has submitted a short digital film or animation, which will be assessed by a panel of independent judges before the winners are announced at a glitzy 'oscar'-style event at York Racecourse on Monday, 9 July. Entries have been received from infant, junior, primary and secondary schools.

Yvonne Methley, from the council's learning, culture and children's services team, said: "The aim of the event is to promote the ongoing development and creative use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in our schools.

"The films will be judged by an independent panel and representatives from the top three entries in each category will be invited to attend the award ceremony. It will be a glitzy event, just like the real Oscars, and should be a really fun evening."

The winners in each of the following categories will receive their very own 'oscar':
- Foundation (3-5 years)
- Year 1/2 - (5-7 years)
- Year 3/4 - (7-9 years)
- Year 5/6 - (9-11 years)
- Key Stage 3 - (11-14 years)
- Key Stage 4 - (14-16 years)
