From today, 18 June, the stand for hackney carriages on the southeast side of Duncombe Place (opposite Dean Court Hotel and St Wilfreds Church) will be closed between the hours of 10pm and 7.30am.

The operating hours have been reduced as part of a series of crime prevention measures introduced by City of York Council, which has been working in partnership with residents, businesses, police and the Safer York Partnership to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the Boar War memorial gardens and Duncombe Place.

Other measures that have been introduced include an alcohol exclusion zone in the Boar War memorial gardens, increased lighting and the cutting back of shrubbery.
