City of York Council is promoting two exciting events as part of its forthcoming Learning Festival.
The first is a travel writing workshop at York Central Library on Monday 2 July from 6pm until 8pm.
Alan Wilkinson, an experienced travel writer, will take participants through the pitfalls of travel writing. Those who attend will need to be prepared to try some writing exercises and share their work.
This taster session is aimed at adults with a passion for travel and sharing their experiences. It's ideal for those wanting to start keeping a travel journal or blog to share with friends and family, or those who simply want to make their postcards home more exciting.
Places for this free workshop are limited and must be booked in advance. To book, contact Anne Mortimer at Read Write York on 01904 554316 or email read.write@york.gov.uk
The second event is entitled 'An evening with 26' and will take place on Tuesday 3 July between 6pm and 8pm at York Central Library. '26' is a writers group for people who love words. Many of the 500-strong group work as writers, language specialists, editors, designers or publishers. Partners include Cyan Books and Marshall Cavendish.
Join John Simmons, Sarah McCartney and York-based Roger Horberry to find out more about '26' and to hear them read from the group’s latest books, 'Common Ground: Around Britain with 30 Writers' and 'Bard and Co'.
This event will be of particular interest to more established writers who would like to expand their network. For readers, this event will introduce new collections where writing has been inspired by how writers define places and how places inspire writers.
Tickets for this event are free but must be booked in advance via the ibrary helpdesk. Telephone 01904 552815 for more information.
