Council congratulates Friends of St. Nicholas Fields

Posted on Monday 18 June 2007

City of York Council extends its congratulations to the Friends of St. Nicholas Fields for winning a 2007 Biffa Climate Conscious Award for its kerbside recycling scheme.

The scheme, which receives funding from City of York Council, collects recyclables from 4,500 households and is expanding its service to an additional 450 households in Clementhorpe.

An electric vehicle charged with electricity generated by the wind turbine at the Environment Centre on St. Nicholas Fields is used to make the collections.

Geoff Derham, the council's head of waste and cleaning services, said: "We are really pleased for the Friends of St. Nicholas Fields, who work really hard to provide an extremely valuable service. This award from Biffa is just reward for that."
