Edmund Wilson holds walk-in health MOTs

Posted on Friday 8 June 2007

Free health checks for adults are being held at Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool from Monday 12 to Friday 16 June.

The health checks are part of Edmund Wilson’s summer campaign to improve people’s health and fitness.  They coincide with Men’s Health Week, although women are just as welcome to come along!  There is no need to book - anyone wanting a MOT can turn up at the centre between 10am and 3pm.

The centre’s leisure team will conduct a few basic health checks, including blood pressure, peak flow readings, weight and body fat percentage.  They will be able to advise you on your ideal weight in terms of age, gender and height, and also tell you how much muscle, fat and water you are carrying around.  These indicators may be useful in helping to build a general picture of the body’s health, although they are not a replacement for consulting your GP if you have particular concerns.

Anyone wanting a health check will also be able to have a short fitness taster session with one of the gym instructors if they wish.

James Mulroney, duty manager of Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool, said: "This is the first time we’ve ever done a walk-in health MOT, so we would encourage everyone to come along for a check.  It is often helpful for you to have a fitness assessment, particularly if you don’t do any exercise at all or wish to increase your fitness levels."
