Oaklands to host its first inclusive open day

Posted on Monday 25 June 2007

Oaklands is opening its doors to local people with disabilities on Monday 2 July in its first ever Inclusive Open Day.

The event, from 10.00am to 2.00pm, has been organised by Oaklands and City of York Council's Sport and Active Leisure team, and is open to disabled people of all ages.

Those attending will be invited to take part in four different sessions throughout the day, with a range of activities on offer, including gym, climbing, dance, football, athletics, short tennis and boccia. Participants are requested to bring a packed lunch with them. The day is free and carers are also welcome to attend.

Caroline England, from the council's Sport and Active Leisure team, said: "This is an ideal opportunity for people with disabilities to take a look at the facilities on offer at Oaklands and to give them a try.  They may also find they have an interest in an activity they’ve never even tried before.  Everyone is welcome to attend even if they just want a look and watch what is going on. If you can’t make all day then just pop along for part of it!"

There is no need to book before the day but anyone wanting further information can call Caroline England on 07769 880108 or Oaklands on 01904 552424
