City of York Council is teaming up with the North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust to advise and support smokers ahead of the national smoking ban on July 1.
Experts from the North Yorkshire Stop Smoking Service will be joining forces with the council's smokefree team to offer advice on the best ways to stop smoking and on how the forthcoming ban will affect smokers, licensees and retailers.
The Stop Smoking Bus will be in Parliament Street on Monday 11 June from 10am until 4pm.
Dawn Clarkson, the council's senior smokefree officer, said: "There are only 19 days left from 11 June until the ban comes into force and the Stop Smoking event will provide an ideal opportunity for local businesses or smokers to come and get information about the ban and how it will affect them."
Margaret Hewitson, Co-ordinator of North Yorkshire Stop Smoking Service said: "Most smokers welcome smokefree places and it helps them to quit. Being in the centre of York will enable smokers who are ready to stop, to get information, advice and tips on giving up smoking and find out what support is available locally. For those who don’t want to stop, we can provide useful tips on coping with smokefree places."
Residents can drop-in to the bus at any point in the day, or to make an appointment for a one-to-one discussion, please call. For further information ring the North Yorkshire Stop Smoking Service on 0845 8770025
