Money saving tips from York's childcare experts

Posted on Friday 1 June 2007

City of York Council's Early Years and Extended Schools' Service is teaming up with partners across the city in a bid to save people money.

The council's childcare experts will be attending a Money Saving Information event at The Guildhall on Monday 11 June. Organised by York's Citizen's Advice Bureau, organisations from across the city will be hosting information stalls on a wide range of issues, from child care to advice on returning to work. Residents will be able to drop-in to the event between 10am-4pm to get support and advice.

Karen Darley, from the Early Years and Extended Schools' Service, said: "This is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness about what the local Children’s Information Service can provide.  We can give advice on a number of issues such as free early education places for three and four year olds, information about the local playgroups, parent toddler groups, and childcare.

"If you are returning to work, or changing arrangements then we can help you to think about childcare and working options.  We also have a growing database of activities for under fives.

"The Children’s Information Service can provide free professional, helpful, up to date information about about childminders, day nurseries, out of school clubs, holiday play schemes, tax credits and childcare vouchers."

People can join the Children’s Information Scheme and get updates automatically as their children grow up – the team can send packs regularly for children from babies to going to secondary school.  Simply text the word 'scheme' to 07624 802244 and someone will call back.

The team can also offer help, support and guidance to anyone who may want to work with children and a recruitment co-ordinator will be available to discuss career options and training.

A new booklet, 'York on a Budget' produced by the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, will provide a host of information about additional local money saving schemes, tips and initiatives.
