Free cycle tagging is being offered for Foxwood residents this Saturday as part of a fun packed day of activities for the local community.
City of York Council's 'Feeling and being safe in York' campaign is focusing on Foxwood this Saturday afternoon (28 July), helping people tackle security and safety issues in their homes and neighbourhoods. The council's campaign, which runs until September, is helping people with issues of personal safety, property safety, enforcement activity and fear of crime.
Jane Mowat, York City Council's director of Safe York Partnership, said: "Crime in York has fallen over the past few years, but longer winter nights can make us worry more about crime and personal safety. We know that most residents want to see improvements in their area so that's why we are talking to people about some simple safety precautions they can take to protect themselves and their home."
Games, music, street dancing and martial arts are just some of the other activities included in the Foxwood Pride event and summer fair at Foxwood Community Centre and Foxwood Park.
From 12noon until 3pm there will also be a free football tournament at Oaklands Sports Centre which is run by the police for young people aged 8 to 16-years-old, helping to improve relations between young people and the police.
The Lord Mayor of York and civic party will be officially opening the event at 12.45pm.
