City Of York Council

Dads invited to family fun day

Posted on Friday 27 July 2007

A family fun day for York dads will enable them to get involved in planning the city's new Children's Centres.

The event will be held on Saturday 4 August, between 11am and 2pm, at Burton Stone Community Centre. Admission is free of charge and includes lunch.

The event has been organised by the Dads  Forum in conjunction with Sure Start and a range of other partner organisations. It proved extremely successful when it first took place last year.

Dads, grandads and male carers from across the city and with children under 11 years of age are encouraged to go along and have fun, and their partners are also welcome.

Drumming workshops, street sports and digital photo sessions are just a few of the activities planned as part of the day, as well as the Sure Start toy bus.

Alongside the activities, the event will provide information for dads and carers about all the facilities and activities available in the city.

It will also be an opportunity for people to talk to service providers about the type of information and support that they would like to see provided at the city's Children's Centres.

Colette Watson, locality children's centre manager for the west of York,  said: "We really hope that the day will give dads, grandads and male carers a chance to find out what activities are already available in the city. This is also an exciting opportunity for them to get involved in the planning of York's children's centres."
